Amcor Flexibles Zutphen B.V. established since 1951 in Zutphen, Gelderland, is a packaging manufacturer specialising in flexible aluminium packaging and lids for the (pet) food, coffee and pharma markets. Amcor Flexibles Zutphen is part of Amcor, a world leader in (flexible) packaging with 220 production sites in 43 countries worldwide.
Challenge
Amcor attaches great importance to the sustainability and environmental impact of its products and production process. The full product portfolio is 83% recyclable and a lot of energy is put into the development of cleaner end products every day. The aim is to make the full product range recyclable in 2025.
We are proud that we have been able to call Amcor Flexibles in the Netherlands our customer for more than 20 years. Over the years we deliver and maintain the emergency lighting, fire extinguishers and fire hose reels for Amcor Flexibles in Zutphen. At international management level, it was decided not to wait for the upcoming European PFAS ban, but immediately replace all portable fire extinguishers with PFAS-free variants.
Because we have been supplying an excellent fluorine-free foam extinguisher since 2019, we have made an offer to replace all extinguishers. We do this during the annual maintenance of the other safety equipment, like the fire hose reels and emergency light fixtures.
Approach; Replacement of all extinguishers
Instead of replacing all extinguishers in phases, we replace all 50 extinguishers in one go. In a time span of 4 days, in addition to the maintenance of the emergency lighting fixtures and fire hose reels, we will replace all fluorine extinguishers with our F3 fluorine-free foam extinguisher. We will use both the 2 and 6 liter foam extinguishers within Amcor Flexibles.
Result
We spent about 4 days at Amcor Flexibles in Zutphen in the first week of December in 2022. Here we have replaced all PFAS-containing extinguishers with the fluorine-free variant. Amcor is ready for the future with these foam extinguishers. These extinguishers have an excellent extinguishing rating on both A (solids) and B (liquids) fires and will last for at least 20 years!
We have also maintained the 180 emergency lighting fixtures and 20 fire hose reels in the building.
